RVH partners with Northwest to expand complementary services next to health centre

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) has partnered with Northwest Healthcare Properties REIT to explore options for the construction of a new healthcare services building on existing RVH property in Barrie. The purpose of this four-level, 119,000 square foot building is to provide additional space for complementary health services in close proximity to RVH’s main building, similar to the existing three buildings at the Royal Court Medical Centre Complex (corner of Gallie Court and Quarry Ridge Road).

“As the population of Barrie and the surrounding area continues to grow, there is a need for additional space to accommodate health services, whether they be primary care, specialists or other associated services such as physiotherapy,” says Gail Hunt, President and CEO, RVH. “Through RVH’s partnership with Northwest to construct this building, we will be able to meet this need, building a comprehensive healthcare community around RVH for the benefit of patients locally and across the region.”

Northwest provides healthcare real estate solutions to physicians and healthcare professionals across Canada, including the Barrie Primary Care Campus on Bayview Drive. For this project with RVH, Northwest will lease the land, as well as fund and oversee construction of the new healthcare services building. The building will be constructed on an existing staff parking lot located on the other side of Gallie Court from RVH’s main building.

“Northwest has a long history of partnering with leading healthcare providers to create modern, purpose-built spaces that support high-quality care,” says Zach Vaughan, CEO, Northwest Healthcare Properties REIT. “By working with RVH on this new health services building, we are helping to bring primary care, specialist and complementary services together on one campus, improving care for patients.”

The current estimate for completion of the building is 2029. Next steps in the project include pre-consultation meetings for site planning and preparation, as well as ongoing work on the building design by Northwest.
