Opticians and Optometrists - Central

Opticians fill prescriptions from optometrists or opthalmologists (eye doctors) by fitting patients with eyeglasses or contact lenses.

Optometrists conduct eye exams and diagnose, treat, manage and prevent diseases and disorders of the eye and visual system and related structures. Optometrists prescribe and/or provide eyeglasses and contact lenses, low vision aids and vision therapy. Both professions are regulated under the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).

To find an optician or optometrist look in the yellow pages under "Opticians" and "Optometrists". A searchable directory of optometrists is also available by visiting the College of Optometrists of Ontario’s website (see below).
