An Exciting Opportunity for All Nurses (RN/RPN/NP)

Spring 2018

Target Audience

Any nurse providing palliative care— new graduates and experienced nurses refining their skills

Foundational Palliative course to develop the nurse’s knowledge base, assessment skills, patient care planning and team communication skills

Prerequisite course for Comprehensive Advanced Palliative Care Education (CAPCE) offered winter 2019

Course Format  

Includes Fundamentals Enhanced for Nurses

Required pre-reading of Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care Program Guide and E-learning modules

Three 3 hour face to face classes: May 2, May 16, & May 30 from 0900 to 1200 hours

One 2 hour small group coaching session with dates and groups to be determined

Course Content

Promotes self-awareness and confidence in discussing all aspects of death and dying.

Discusses palliative care myths, identification of a palliative approach and who benefits from this approach to care.

Topics include:

  • Nursing Assessment and Care Planning Using the Domains of Care Framework
  • Basics of Pain Theory , Assessment, Treatment and Pharmacology
  • Grief, Resiliency and Compassion Fatigue
  • End of Life Planning, End of life Care

 

 

 

 

 

Cost: $65 includes the Program Guide and continental breakfast
